The HSBC Business Case Competition is an intellectual competition that solves business problems in English. The competition is a playground for university students to help people improve their skills and practice thinking to solve problems in the field of economics and finance.

1. Who is eligible to join

Year 3 to Year 4 students

Excellent knowledge in any areas of Strategy, General management, Accounting, Business, Finance & Investment, Marketing, HR ect…

Fluency in English (equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 60 -78). All competition activities, including presentations and training sessions, will be conducted in English.

Students who have reached the final round of HSBC Business Case Competition in Vietnam in previous years, are not eligible to compete again.

2. How it works

The competition consists of three rounds. In each round, each team of four undergraduate students will be given a business case developed by Asia Case Research Centre and giver three hours to come up with a solution to case and prepare a presentation of the said solution.

The solution will be presented to a panel of three senior business leaders from HSBC and other business industries. Each presentation will last for 20 minutes, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. Each member of participating teams is expected to present at least once during each presentation.

Electronic devices such as laptops and mobile phones are not allowed; neither is the use of PowerPoint, laser pointers and similar presentation devices. Students are given overhead sheets of their presentations.

3. Timeline

20th January 2020
– Deadline for university submit their registration teams 

16th – 18th Feb 2020
– Screening round to select the finalist 12 teams

23rd February – 29 March 2020    
– Mentoring sessions for selected teams

– Professional presentation and Teamwork skills training. 

31st March 2020
– First round of competition in HCMC
                                 

1st April 2020                       
– Second round of competition in HCMC
– Awarding ceremony in HCMC

21st – 18th May 2020             
– Regional Competition in BeiJing, China 

4. What to students get

All qualified team members will have the opportunity to participate in a training course focusing on English presentation skills and soft skills, helping candidates to have the best performance at the competition.

Each qualified team will have mentoring sessions with one to two senior staff of HSBC as well as large corporations in the country and the region.

Teams from Hanoi will be sponsored all travel and accommodation expenses during the competition in Ho Chi Minh City.

5. Structure of prize

The prize of the winning team is VND 50 million in cash and the opportunity to represent Vietnam at HSBC / HKU Asia Pacific Business Case Competition 2020 in Beijing, China.

The 2nd and 3rd placed teams will receive VND 30 million in cash and VND 20 million in cash respectively.
